Tryouts will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on Friday and Saturday at the Children’s Stage. The show will begin at 3:00 pm on Sunday at the Children’s Stage.
Join LATO partner Cal Poly's Physiological Ecology of Reptiles Lab (PERL) for a meet and greet with some of their slithery reptiles. Other native fauna may stop by for a visit, too.

Don Norton is best known as the emcee for the Children’s Talent Show, but did you know in 1989, Don presented a children’s concert at the very first Live Oak Musical Festival? Don is a former Cuesta College preschool teacher and an Emeritus ECE/ Family Studies instructor. He has presented his interactive music and movement workshops and concerts all over California. Your family and friends are invited to celebrate, sing, and move like no one is watching.
Hang out with friends and play a game of ping pong, tetherball, or frisbee golf. Compete in duck races and corn hole. Or, have fun with hula hoops! Activities will be held in the Children’s Area.
Join LATO partner Cal Poly’s Physiological Ecology of Reptiles Lab (PERL) to learn hands-on how they perform science in the field. Lab members will lasso some lizards and we might even catch a snake or two! All critters will be handled with care and respect.
Oak Woodland Activities
Join LATO at their booth in the Children’s Area for a variety of fun crafts and games, including Guess the Mystery Scat and Oak Quiz Bowl.
Creek Exploration
Come with LATO to explore the magical area along Dairy Creek. Learn about plants, creek invertebrates, and how to explore while leaving no trace. Spend some time nature journaling or just resting in the shade. Poison oak, ticks, and mosquitoes may be present.
Learning Among the Oaks (LATO) is a program of The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County (LCSLO), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. LATO works to connect youth and families to nature and the land with public K-6 education programs, the development of youth naturalists called Oak Ambassadors, and family outdoor adventures. For all LATO activities, meet at the LATO tent in the Children’s Area
Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of storytelling at the Children's area stage, where the renowned Michael Katz takes center stage. With a twinkle in his eye and a captivating voice that weaves tales like delicate tapestries, Michael invites you on a journey through the realms of imagination and folklore. (Saturday and Sunday)
Get inspired by seemingly gravity-defying aerial performances. See what’s possible with a hanging apparatus and diligent practice. Expansion of consciousness can be exhilarating by falling with grace. Performances will be held in the KCBX Stage audience area at various times throughout the weekend.
Experience an up-close and personal encounter with a manager of musical instruments as SLO Symphony Zookeepers introduce you to different types of instruments and help you figure out how to make some noise!
Stop by the free library and pick up a book or coloring page, located near the Live Oak shower units across from Fiddle Forest.
Learn about recycling and organic waste through interactive games and activities on behalf of the SLO County Integrated Waste Management Authority! Play recycling cornhole, learn recycled papermaking, test your recycling knowledge, and enjoy a fun photo booth. Staff will also provide recycling support for any attendees with questions about recycling or organic waste in SLO County.
