Jill's Knight Out

  • Live Oak Music Festival 4100 Vachell Lane San Luis Obispo, CA, 93401 United States (map)

The band known as Jill’s Knight Out had its nucleus formed in 1987 when San Luis Obispo locals Jill Knight (guitar, vocals) and Pam Delgado (percussion, vocals) teamed up to play local venues around town, famously drawing and mesmerizing packed crowds at places like Brubeck’s downstairs with their powerful yet beautiful vocal harmonies and witty off-the-cuff banter. In 1991, at a late-night jam at this very festival, they met Rob Strom (bass) and begged him to join the band (actually, it was the other way around!) and he’s as solid a bass player as he is a human being. They completed their lineup in 1993 when they kidnapped Jeri Jones (guitar, vocals) and she quickly developed Stockholm Syndrome and agreed to play in the band, although she demanded to play at 10db below what most other guitar players would.

Voted “Best Local Band” three years in a row by New Times, Jill’s Knight Out deftly blends R&B-tinged Americana songwriting with sweet three-part harmonies, atmospheric electric guitar and a solid grooving rhythm section.

Although the band went on hiatus in the later 90’s as various members pursued other musical and life paths, they’ve always remained deeply connected and reunite every year or so to reconnect with their friends/fans/family and nurture the love and music that they effortlessly create.
